Georgia’s foreign trade turnover in January 2009 was USD 341.5 million, 31.7% less than in January 2008. Of this Georgian exports accounted for only USD 62.1 million. The negative trade balance this January is therefore USD 217.2 million.
The biggest trading partner of Georgia is Turkey. Georgia has seen a catastrophic growth of its negative trade balance. The major products exported from Georgia are scrap metal and Ferro alloys but the demand for these products has gone down dramatically. Georgia also exports gold and fertilizers.
