European Court of Human Rights approves over 400 cases from Georgia

The European Court of Human Rights has agreed to hear over 400 cases of people injured during the Russian intervention in August 2008. Their complaints were collected and sent to Strasbourg by the NGO Article 42 of the Constitution and other organizations.

The complainants demand that Russia admits to the violation of those articles of the European Convention indicated in the complaints. They also demand financial compensation from the Russian Federation. (Rustavi 2)



Suspects of stealing non-rusting metal from high voltage masts have been detained

The Press Centre of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia reports that “as a result of operative-investigative measures carried out by officers of the Imereti, Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti Regional Main Division of the Ministry of Interior, the following members of an organized criminal group have been detained: Murad Mskhviladze (born 1975), Valeri Mskhviladze (born 1972) Ramaz Mskhviladze (born 1959) and Sevarion Gubeladze (born 1959). They are accused of stealing angle bars of non-corrosive metal of different shapes, lengths and profiles from 500 kilowatt high voltage masts situated in Khani village in the Bagdati district.

“The stolen angle bars have been seized by Regional Police employees. Those arrested have already confessed to the crime.

“Investigation of the case has been launched under Article 177 part II, sub-paragraph a and part III sub-paragraph a of the same Article of the Criminal Code of Georgia,” the statement concludes. (Interpressnews)



Georgian Conservatives question funds spent on President’s residence

The Georgian Conservative Party is demanding transparency in the construction of the President`s Avlabari residence. Party members say that GEL 500 million has been spent on this. Gia Bukia asserts that the party has been trying to obtain details of project expenditure for four years, but has not been able to find anything out.

The Conservatives have asked the construction company to make public complete information about the exact funds spent on this construction. (Rustavi 2)
