Some time ago the Russian Foreign Minister was in Baku and the Iranian Foreign Minister in Yerevan. Former Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Tigran Torosian has stated that Armenia and Iran will continue their close economic cooperation, the first manifestation of this being the Iran-Armenian gas pipeline.
There are also plans to construct an oil pipeline and railways between the two countries. These projects have economic as well as political importance and should not be shelved because of the world financial crisis, Torosian says.
Torosian has also touched upon Iranian participation in South Caucasus political issues and its possible participation in the stability platform suggested by Turkey.
