According to recent studies around 1.5 million Georgians are living outside the country at present. On average these emigrants are between 25 and 44 years old and just over half are male.
Research carried out by the ACT marketing company states that at least 1 member of 14% of families in urban areas is abroad. 17% of Kutaisi residents are out of the country. However only 8% of Batumi residents are living abroad. Maybe this is because Batumi is close to the Turkish border and the locals can therefore visit Turkey for short periods and then return.
