The Presidents of Romania and Poland, Traian Basescu and Lech Kaczinski, signed a strategic partnership agreement between the two countries on October 7. Both sides highlighted the importance of the NABUCCO project for securing energy safety for Europe by diversifying supply routes, and Romania could have the support of Poland in developing this project.
As is known the project envisages the creation of a new natural gas supply system from the Southern Caucasus to Turkey, Bulgaria and Romania and then the rest of Europe, bypassing Russia. 460 kilometres of gas pipeline will be laid in Romania out of a total of 3,296.
