The former German Foreign Minister and current political adviser for the NABUCCO project Joschka Fischer stated recently that several big investors from Europe and the USA are ready to participate in the NABUCCO project. He said that if the project goes ahead Russia will be forced to participate in it. He said that negotiations over which countries will be the main suppliers of NABUCCO will be held at the beginning on 2010 and from that autumn 2010 construction will start.
Fischer highlighted that there should be no monopoly on supplying natural gas to Europe. He suggested that Central Asian countries should make up their minds as soon as possible about supplying Europe with natural gas. He also suggested that Iraq, and potentially Iran, could participate in this project.
