According to the Adjara Tourism and Resorts Department as of November 16, 2009 the autonomous region has been visited by more than half a million tourists this year, a number higher than last year and even 2007. Of these more than 150,000 have been foreigners. Batumi port has so far hosted 11 cruise boats this year, the last one, Spirit of Adventure, carrying 340 tourists from Britain.
The Adjara authorities do their best to attract more tourists by developing the infrastructure of the region, restaurants, hotels and different entertainments. Many investments are being made in reconstructing the historic part of Batumi, the Seashore Park and other sights.
