The 2009 budget has been cut some time ago with GEL 500 million. Finance Minister Kakha Baindurashvili has stated that new cut will be taking place of GEL 189.7 million. The Christian Democrats think that this is a sequestration of public funds and demands that those do it should be held to account.

Christian Democrat Levan Vephkhvadze states that his party will not support this budget change as the budgetary policy of the Government is not correct. Baindurashvili does not agree and defines the word sequester as cutting expenditure on State targeted programmes, saying that such cuts do not appear in the 2009 budget.

Some economic analysts support the steps of the Finance Ministry. Soso Archuladze in particular thinks that such cuts are not alarming and it does not really matter what name they are given.
