In 2010 Georgia expects to receive USD 2 billion in Foreign direct Investment (FDI); this was stated by President Saakashvili at the Latvia-Georgia business forum. Analysts think that this figure is very optimistic, citing this year, when USA 2 billion was also predicted but not achieved.
Since autumn 2008 investments in Georgia have slowed down dramatically. Over the last year and a half there has been a decreasing rather than increasing FDI trend. However, although USD 2 billion is considered an optimistic target analysts state that there could be some increase in FDI compared with 2009.
