American political analyst Daniel Nelson suggested recently that Romania should conduct a more active policy in the Black Sea and not concentrate only on Moldova. He thinks that Romania should backpedal on the issue of unification with Moldova for now as Moscow would support the Transdnestria region if it raised it, giving the Russian population a separatist card.
Nelson also thinks that Romania should seek to establish alternative gas transport routes to counter Russia’s energy dominance in the region.
