Turkey claims that there are between 50,000 and 70,000 labour migrants from Armenia in Turkey. However Armenian Migration Service Chairman Gagik Eganian thinks that these figures are exaggerated. He insists that according to a Eurasia Foundation in Armenia study the Turkish claims are wrong.
Eganian states that over the last nine years around 294,000 people from Armenia have entered Turkey and 288,000 have returned. However the number of people traveling from Armenia to Turkey and back has increased fourfold. In 2000 there were 30,000, in 2008 130,000.
