Georgia’s Department of Statistics states that in 2009 the foreign trade turnover of the country diminished by up to 1/3. Accordingly the negative trade balance of the country has also diminished.
In 2009 trade turnover (excluding non-organised small trade operations) was USD 5.5 billion, a figure almost 30% less than in 2008. Of this amount Georgia exported USD 1.3 billion worth of products and imported USD 4.37 billion. Thus Georgia’s negative trade balance in 2009 was more than USD 3 billion.
In 2009 Georgia’s biggest trade partner was Turkey, followed by Azerbaijan and Ukraine.
