The first night of a new production of Pushkin’s play Onegin was held at the Marjansihvili Theatre on February 16. Its director, chief choreographer and designer was young Georgian Irina Gachechiladze.
The play was masterfully adapted to the Marjanishvili stage by means of Matrioshka-style costumes which turned the tragic love story into a drama of human passion. The audience watched the performance with a thrill, engaging with the action throughout. The costumes and movements of the actors added a lively humour to the dramatic developments. The performance was greeted with round applause.
