Azerbaijan plans to transport natural gas to Syria by the end of 2010. This issue was raised in July 2009 during the visit of the Syrian President to Azerbaijan, when it was decided that Azerbaijan will provide Syria with one billion cubic metres natural gas annually. Syria and Turkey have already decided to construct a pipeline connecting the gas supply network of the two countries which should be finished by the end of 2010, thus enabling Azerbaijan to provide gas to Syria.
As is known Azeri gas is transported to Turkey through the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzerum pipeline. Negotiations concerning the future price of this gas are still underway between Turkey and Azerbaijan.
