Head of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Polish Sejm (parliament) Andrzey Halicki has stated that the South Caucasus is an important region for Poland and the entire European Union. The major reason for this is its rich energy resources, which are so necessary for the European countries.
Halicki said that the realisation of the NABUCCO project very much depends on various different factors. The major one is whether this pipeline will run through Turkey, as Turkey wants to become a member of the EU. Poland plans to continue to develop economic relations with all three South Caucasus countries, particularly when all of them are included in the Eastern Partnership Programme, Halicki said.
