Russia and Turkey the major players in the Caucasus

During the forthcoming visit to Ankara of President of Russia Dimitry Medvedev an agreement will be signed on visa-free travel between the two countries and establishing the ferryboat link between the ports of Samsun and Kavkaz. Agreements in the energy sphere will also be signed, as Moscow wants to participate in building the first nuclear power station in Turkey and the Samsun-Ceyhan oil pipeline.
Turkish Ambassador to Moscow Halil Akinci has stated that Turkey and Russia are the most important players in the Caucasus and Black Sea region. The aim of both countries is ensuring stability in the region and both believe that problems in the region should be resolved by the regional countries without the interference of other states.
