Women earn less than men in Georgia

In 2008 there were 367,000 employed females in Georgia and 678,000 employed males. The average salary was around GEL 500, but according to official statistics women received lower salaries than men. Analyst Nodar Kapanadze has told Rezonansi that this is normal because males work in positions with more risk attached which are paid higher, but it is difficult to explain this from a social point of view.
