The AGRI (Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania Interconnect) project envisages transporting liquid gas to Romania after it has been transported from Azerbaijan to Georgia and liquefied there. President Saakashvili stated on June 2 in Bucharest that this project is very much viable and will certainly be launched earlier than the NABUCCO project. He also highlighted that AGRI was initiated by Romania’s President and expressed his hope that it could be operational this year.
The memorandum of this project was signed on April 13, 2010. It will cost approximately Euro 4-6 billion and a new gas liquid terminal will be built in Poti-Kulevi.
