Georgia’s PM Nika Gilauri assures everybody that in 2011 the economy should grow by 8-9%. 2009 was difficult not only for Georgia but for the whole world, but the country managed to achieve at least some sustainability. The PM therefore suggests that in 2010 economic growth will be around 4-5% with the further increase in 2011.
Gilauri points out that certain European countries are in dire economic conditions even today but Georgia has managed to overcome its difficulties through conducting efficient reforms and receiving the assistance of international financial institutions. The results of the first quarter of 2010 show that compared with same period of last year GDP has indeed grown 4.5% and increased by nearly USD 150 million.
The Department of Statistics states that in January-March 2010 GDP was about USD 557 per capita, the best first quarter figure in five years.
