Secretary General of GUAM (Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova) Valeri Chechelashvili has stated that for the last several years the turnover between GUAM countries has been almost USD 4.7 billion. He expressed his optimism concerning GUAM's development and his willingness to further strengthen the organisation.
Chechelashvili also stressed that it is very important for the successful development of the organisation that the conflicts on the territories of its member countries are resolved as soon as possible. He highlighted Ukraine’s efficient and substantial cooperation with the organisation and expressed his satisfaction with this.
Significantly, as one of the first acts of his Presidency Viktor Yanukovich stated that Ukraine will continue to be a member of GUAM only for practical reasons. This can be assumed to mean that Ukraine is satisfied with its GUAM membership.
