From mid-2011 Syria will be importing Azeri natural gas, Syrian Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources Sufian Alalao stated on June 29 during his visit to Baku. The Minister specified that the pipeline network between Syria and Turkey is currently being put in order and as soon as this is done the export of Azeri gas to Syria will start.
Documents concerning this transit have already been signed between the sides. The agreement envisages that Azeri gas could eventually be transported to some other Arab countries through the Panarab pipeline. There are even plans to transport it via the Mediterranean to European countries.
