Azerbaijan and Gazprom relations

SOCAR President Rovnag Abdulaev has stated that Baku is ready to supply more gas to Gazprom and has already offered to increase it to 2 billion cubic metres annually from 2011. As is known Russia has several times offered to purchase all Azerbaijan's natural gas at market prices, as so far most Azeri gas goes to Turkey via Georgia and this supply could eventually form an essential component of the NABUCCO project.

By offering Russia extra gas Azerbaijan is either gambling or undermining the NABUCCO project. The main obstacle to this project at present is whether it will have a big enough supply of gas to make it viable.
