It was stated at the international conference on biodiversity held in Azerbaijan recently that despite political discord the region's countries are prepared to cooperate with each other in this particular field. A special programme has been elaborated for cooperation between the three South Caucasus countries plus Russia, Turkey and Iran on the maintenance of the unity of the ecosystem of the region.
Despite the confrontations between Azerbaijan and Armenia and Russia and Georgia these countries have expressed their willingness to cooperate for the sake of preserving the ecosystem. As a good example of this cooperation he mentioned a project undertaken in Karabakh to prevent forest fires in which Armenian and Azeri representatives participated shoulder to shoulder.
