Russia suspends Mistral purchase deal with France

The Russian Defence Ministry has suspended the purchase of the Mistral-class ship from France, reported the Russian media according to information released by the Russian shipbuilding company director. Roman Trotsenko says that the ministry approved the company's proposal to announce an international tender for the purchase of a warship, for which a special state commission will work. The commission will define the special criteria and the deadline for the tender.

So far no officials have commented on the decision. They do however confirm Trotsenko`s proposal and say that the purchase of a Mistral from France without a tender would have been illegal anyway.

A while ago, the Russian shipbuilding company proposed discussing alternatives to Mistral - Dutch Johan De Vit and Spanish Juan Carlos. Trotsenko says these warships are cheaper than the Mistral, in addition, the construction of a Russian version would require less funds and time. (Rustavi 2)

Kurtanidze voiced these allegations at yesterday's briefing. He said there were no other reasons for which he might have been prevented from participating in the championship.

The movement Public Assembly has tried to promote the wrestler and applied to the Wrestling Federation to allow Luka Kurtanidze to participate in the tournament.
