Agriculture sector in decline

Agricultural production in 2009 in Georgia fell by 4 percent compared with 2008.

The Georgian statistical department reports that in 2009, the agricultural sector produced goods worth GEL 2.117 billion, which is the lowest for the last four years. In 2006, the agriculture sector produced goods worth GEL 2.134 billion, in 2007 GEL 2. 25 billion, in 2008 GEL 2.209 billion. Negative dynamics are clearly displayed. In 2009 agricultural production figures show that GEL 1.131 billion is from cattle breeding, GEL 927.5 million from plants, and agricultural services – GEL 58.5 million.
