Thomas de Waal, an analyst from the Carnegie Foundation, thinks that military confrontation between Azerbaijan and Karabakh/Armenian forces will escalate. He also thinks that there is a big difference between statements by President Aliev of Azerbaijan and his Defence minister. While the President threatens action, the Defence minister is commenting on the possible resumption of war in a joking manner. The analyst thinks that Azerbaijan will not be able to win through military confrontation due to Karabakh's geographic location and capacity of Armenian army, de Vaal explained. He thinks that in the event of a resumption of war, thousands of Azeri youth would be destined to die.
