Azeri political analyst Pikret Zadikhov has commented on the US and Russian positions on Karabakh conflict, following the statements of the Defence Secretary Robert Gates and Minister of Defense Anatoly Serdukov. According to the analyst Moscow and Washington do not really want to solve the Karabakh problem. Sadikhov thinks that the super powers are interested in protecting their own interests in the region. According to him the Kremlin has the same interests in the South Caucasus region as it had during the time of Peter the Great. Whereas, the USA is interested in maintaining its interests in energy transportation. So, both super powers share the viewpoint that any kind of confrontation around Karabakh is not acceptable for either side.
