Russian anti terrorist combat in the north Caucasus

High ranking official of the prosecutor general for the Russian prosecution, Artem Melnikov, stated on September 22, 2010 that Russian special services and militia have managed to prevent more than 50 terrorist attacks masterminded in north Caucasus. Melnikov reports that, in the north Caucasus, there were 246 terrorist attacks carried out from the beginning of 2010. That comprises around a quarter of crimes of this nature perpetrated in the whole of the Russian federation. According to Melnikov, more than 800 kg of explosives were intercepted and 140 explosive devices were also neutralized. 160 terrorists were killed and more than 200 supporters unveiled and arrested.
