On November 29, an analyst from Noravik Research Centre, Ruben Melkonyan stated that in 2008 the US, as well as Russia were interested in normalizing relations between Armenia and Turkey. According to Melkonyan, the process of normalization was initiated by the US. The analyst also believes that after 2008 August war with Georgia it was in Russia’s interests that Armenia and Turkey open their borders as it would have resulted in a serious blow to Georgia’s economy.
