PM Nika Gilauri is certain that a culture of tax paying is being established in Georgia. Only 10% of those whose tax payments are revised are penalized which proves that such a culture is surfacing. “The figure is almost European, because there are only 7% penalized there,” stated Gilauri. The PM thinks that there are different reasons for this change of attitude. Improving infrastructure and a new tax code have helped to create a favourable situation in which to conduct new relations between the tax administration and the private sector. Tax is important and a fair taxation system should be established, thinks the PM. As part of this change in direction, a new economic zone was opened at Lilo customs terminal by President Saakashvili on December 3.
