Since 1992 more than 1 million citizens left Armenia. Most of them, according to Armenia’s statistical services go to Russia. 65% of Armenian migrants settle in Russia, followed by the USA and Ukraine. In Russia there are many so called labour migrants from Armenia. Some are seasonal migrants and others permanently settle there.
There is much speculation that because of such high number of Armenians are settling in Russia, special migration representation could be opened. The Armenian side has considered this issue, however no practical steps been taken in this direction so far.
