Turkmenistan President Gurbanguly Berdimukhamedov stated during a meeting with an EU delegation that Turkmenistan is ready to develop European directions in its energy policy. Of the various options of transporting Turkmen gas to Europe, the Turkmen president supported that of laying a pipeline in the Caspian Sea bed. Last November at the pre Caspian countries summit Berdimukhamedov aired his idea to lay pipeline in the Caspian Sea bed with the consent of only those countries whose territories will be involved in the project, meaning Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan and not others such as Iran. A precondition was set of observing the highest level of security of ecological standards and safety norms.
Another way of transporting the natural gas would be in liquefied form but this needs special infrastructure and the creation of an appropriate fleet of carriers. The Turkmen President said that he is prepared to conduct very serious negotiations with any interested parties from Europe.
