Georgian foreign trade turnover increases

According to information of the National Statistics Service Georgia’s foreign trade turnover reached USD 6.678 billion in 2010, which is encouraging since it is 21% higher than in 2009. Of this figure exports amount to USD1.583 billion – 40% higher than last year. Imports also increased by 17%, reaching just over USD 5 billion. According to 2010 data the Georgia's largest trading partner is still Turkey – with a turnover of USD 1 billion; second is Azerbaijan – USD 708 million and in third place is Ukraine with USD 662 million.
Major export items from Georgia are Ferro alloys and the re-export of cars, followed by scrap metal. As for imports, the main imports into Georgia are oil and oil products; then cars and thirdly medical items.
