Kars municipality to remove monument of friendship between Armenian and Turkish people

On February 1, the municipality of Turkish city of Kars took the decision to remove a monument symbolizing the friendship between Armenian and Turkish people. Turkish PM Erdogan during his recent visit to Kars called this monument ugly and recommended that it be removed. Armenia’s FM Eduard Nalbandian expressed his regret at the decision, mentioning that this act will hinder the healing process of relations between two countries. This monument was erected in 2008, it represents two symbolic figures who move towards each other. The monument is located 40 km from the Turkish – Armenian border.
