Doctor of Economics, Tatul Manaserian thinks that opening free economic zones in Armenia will create a favourable situation in Armenia. He gave the examples of China where there are more than one hundred free economic zones and Turkey with dozens of such entities. As for the possible threat of avoiding paying taxes, according to Manaserian, the country can control the situation as Armenia has a very small scale economy. A draft law has been submitted to the Armenian parliament and if it is supported, initially two free economic zones will be opened in Yerevan – one at the Mars plant and the second at Zvartnots airport. If successful, two more free economic zones might be opened elsewhere in the country.
