Economic analyst and Professor Nodar Khaduri has challenged some parts of the new tax code. The communications sector is liable to pay 10% taxes and alcoholic beverage taxes have doubled. Tax on land also increased. So, Khaduri thinks that there could be a growth of tax revenues, but it will be interesting to see at what expense. If economic growth is based mostly on administering tax revenues then this will not be economic development. There is a difference between economic growth and economic development, thinks the analyst. Meanwhile, the Georgian population remembers very well that on October 6, 2009 the Georgian president promised in front of the parliament members that the taxes will not be increased. However in just two weeks' time taxes were increased in several different sectors.
