Russian experts Alexey Strokov and Vladimir Paramonov think that the recent speculation concerning Turkmen natural gas being exported into Europe is not realistic. They think on one hand that Turkmenistan wants to promote its natural gas capabilities and therefore it wants to participate in the NABUCCO project but there are certain conditions which make this target difficult to achieve. First there is no consent about the division of the Caspian Sea and besides there is an unstable situation in the south Caucasus according to Russian experts. There is also the issue of Iran’s capability to export its own gas into European destinations. So, all these factors might prevent the export of Turkmen gas into Europe.
