Indian company Continental Energy will construct Khudoni hydro power station on Enguri River, Georgian PM Nika Gilauri announced on April 21 during the government’s session. This Indian company has already provided the Georgian government with a fisibility study of the project. Discussions over the construction of the power station are almost complete and an agreement is hoped to be concluded soon. This process is very complicated, requiring serious investments. Should the power station's construction go ahead, it would bring great economic benefits to Georgia. After its construction it would be producing 650 mega watts, with the overall investment estimated to be up to USD 1 bln. The Construction of a hydro power station began during Soviet rule in 1979 but was later suspended in 1989; by then certain infrastructure including the construction of roads had been concluded. Khudoni will be erected in the mountains at around 2010 meters above sea level, the height of the dam will be 201 meters.
