During the visit of Turkmen President Gurbanguli Berdimukhamedov to Romania on May 12-13 the main issue of discussion was the transportation of Turkmen gas to Romania. Possible routes and destinations were suggested while the Romanian President Besesku highlighted the priority of transporting Turkmen gas to Europe through Romania participating in the NABUCCO and Agri projects which already involve Azerbaijan and Georgia. Turkmenistan expressed its interest in joining both of these projects.
Until recently Turkmen gas has been exported into Russia, Iran and China but the country is now interested in attracting other buyers. Turkmenistan is currently involved in sending its gas into Afghanistan, Pakistan and India direction and is trying to diversify its sales and exports by providing a higher volume of natural gas into the European market.
