Armenia’s President Serzh Sarkisian does not rule out the possibility of military developments in Karabakh. The first scenario foreseen by Sarkisian is the occupation of Karabakh by Azerbaijan and the eventual extermination of the Karabakh population. The second scenario envisages the defeat of Azerbaijan after which it would lose more regions. In case of military developments Sarkisian does not exclude the recognition of Karabakh as an independent state by Armenia. MP Gagik Melikian thinks that there is only one possible development in the event of military confrontation and this is the complete defeat of Azerbaijan which in this case will lose around 17 regions. President Sarkisian also highlighted that in the event of war, Russia has an obligation and the capabilities to act accordingly as Russia is Armenia's ally.
