According to official data around 600 000 people receive a fixed salary in Georgia. This number is approximately the same as it was in 2003 before the Rose Revolution. Analysts suggest that the main reason for this situation is the fact that there is more promotion in the country of big business rather than medium and small businesses. The latter would of course create more jobs for the population. The big businesses use more expensive modern technologies which mean that there is a smaller need for human labour. On the other hand the smaller and medium sized businesses depend largely on workforce. There has been a slight increase in salaries but this has been offset by a substantial rise in food prices since 2003. For instance the price of petrol in Georgia is higher than in USA and the same goes for poultry and eggs.
