Why has the Revenue Office entered MediaPalitra Holding? Do you think this is an ordinary inspection or pressure on the media?

Thursday, June 9
“I think it is too early to say why this is happening. We should wait and see if the Revenue Office fines them or just checks and that’s all. I think the media outlets, NGOs and opposition politicians are making hasty statements now.”
Natia, lawyer, 25

“It is definitely yet another act of pressure on the media. It is very suspicious why the authorities decided to inspect MediaPalitra Holding only after the May 26 events. I think everyone should raise their voice against this constant oppression on journalists.”
Nino, teacher, 41

“I don’t really know what to think. I think this inspection raises a lot of questions. But it is not fair to directly blame the authorities of pressuring the media by inspecting media houses. Inspection is a legal action. We have to wait and see what happens.”
Levan, IT, 30

“This step had definitely been taken due to the recent political processes in our country. The Georgian Government has been trying hard to interfere into affairs of the independent media outlets and to oppress them.”
Nugzar, Lecturer, 47

“It is difficult to say something directly and be sure in your words. Maybe this is connected with the Media Palitra’s activities, however, it might be an ordinary procedure carried out in all such organizations.
Gia, Lawyer, 27

“I am sure that it is related with MediaPalitra’s actions and their broadcasting, each media organization, which does not fulfill the authorities orders are disliked and buried. Step by step, everyone in the country refrains from stating what they really think, which is unacceptable.”
Nona, Sociologist, 45

“I don’t think it was an ordinary inspection. Such an unexpected inspection really imposes doubts, especially when the authorities are trying to make control on media means.”
Zurab, Camera man, 25
