The opposition political party 'We, Ourselves' is asking the government to de-monopolize the bread business.
It considers that this business should follow international trends, claiming that in most countries bread prices have gone down, whereas in Georgia it is still high. The representatives of the party explain that the price of imported meat in Georgia has also gone down. Georgia has received a good yield in this year's harvest as well, though the bread price has not gone down so far. According to the party this creates a basis for social tension which could be dangerous.
The vulnerable population suffers from high bread prices, as for many of them this is the main product they consume. We, Ourselves ask the government to study this situation and introduce regulations to stop the monopolization of this market.
