Good harvest of hazelnuts

According to statistical data, the hazelnut harvest in Georgia will be around 60% higher than usual. The prices will be determined in Turkey at the end of August and afterwards hazelnuts processing will start. 1 kg of hazelnuts could be bought for around GEL 2.5. The export price of hazelnuts comes to over USD 6. Hazelnut plantations in Georgia cover around 15 000 hectares, mostly in western Georgia, in Samegrelo, Guria and Imereti. There are small amounts of the product in some other regions as well. There are huge territories of hazelnut plantations in the Russian occupied territory of Gali region. 90% of Georgian hazelnuts are exported into Europe and CIS countries.
