Serious reserves of natural gas have been found in Azerbaijan's Apsheron gas field. These reserves will increase the pressure for the success of the NABUCCO pipeline project. The NABUCCO project has been under threat of failure because of problems finding sources for the NABUCCO pipeline to tap. This problem might now have been solved however. According to an initial estimation made by the French company Total there may be reserves of several trillion cubic meters of natural gas in Apsheron. Azeri president Ilham Aliev already hailed the finding, stating that this event signified further confirmation of Azerbaijan's position among the world’s greatest natural gas producing countries.
