Military Balance in South Caucasus

The Russian news agency Regnum recently published information on the quantity of military armaments in the South Caucasus countries for January 1, 2011.



This data gives the balance of the armed forces though it does not give a clean picture of the genuine situation on the ground. There also exists the so-called Karabakh Military Forces information about which is unavailable. In Georgia’s breakaway territories Abkhazia and South Ossetia there is an uncontrolled and unmonitored quantity of Russian armaments, armed forces and ammunition. The number and quantity is unavailable here also. There is also no information about the exact quantity of equipment in the Russian military base in Gumri, Armenia.
