The Union of Oil Products has positively assessed the past year. Highlighted in particular were the investments made by SOCAR and Wissol in the construction of services on the Gori motorway. Such multifunctional services are precedents of their kind in the entire south Caucasus offering design and infrastructure on a par with Europe. There are plans to continue constructing more such units. The worldwide tendency of oil price increases influenced oil prices in Georgia as well. However independent analysts have challenged this information suggesting that in certain cases oil product prices in Georgia are higher than in other countries.
In 2012 Georgia will move to European standard fuel quality. Another positive result of the past year is that there is virtually no black market fuel being sold in Georgia anymore.
