Georgia leading with number of inmates

Georgian NGO Human Rights Centre has expressed alarm at statistics aired by London based organization International Centre of Prison Studies. According to this data Georgia is leading in Europe in terms of the number of prisoners for every 100,000 inhabitants in the country. In 2003 Georgia was in 59th place out of 159 countries and had 148 prisoners for every 100 thousand citizens. According to the new information today Georgia has 539 prisoners for every 100,000 people. With this result Georgia is fourth out of the world’s 216 countries and first in Europe.
