Transportation figures confirm positive economic trends

Key transportation statistics for 2011 confirmed positive economic trends for Georgia, in line with the government's expectations.
Total cargo transportation for 2011 reached 48.9 million tons, up 1% year-over-year, and up 8% compared to 2009 data.
At Georgian ports, containers handled numbered 299 000 TEUs, up 32.4% year-over-year, and up 64.9% compared to 2009. Total handled cargo by ports reached 22.1 million tons, down 2.4% year-over-year, but was up 9.6% compared to 2009.
Civil air transportation reached 1.193 million passengers in 2011, up 30% year-over-year, and up 54.5% compared to 2009.
Transportation by road has the largest share in total transport action, and amounts for 28.8 million tons, which is up 1.1% year-over-year, and up 2.1% compared to 2009.
