The President of Turkmenistan recently stated that his country is ready to invite the world's top high technology brands to set up enterprises there. He hopes this will facilitate the creation of new jobs and further industrialization of the country.
Russian commentators doubt that Turkmenistan has either the financial or political resources to attract such firms, and the existing investment environment is not adequate. Most of the government's revenue comes from natural gas, an industry that still requires diversification, particularly in export destinations.
